Performance standards

  • Clear the object by 100'.
  • Maintain 40 KIAS until clear.
  • Increase to 60 KIAS.
CAUTION: Calculated risk in the H-V Diagram.

1Takeoff preparation
  • MAP check.
  • OGE check.
  • Cross check.
  • Light on skids.
2@ 5' AGL → 40 KIAS
  • Lift off.
  • Up collective to 5 min. rating.
  • Gentle forward cyclic to 40 KIAS.
  • Pedals for straight.
3@ 100' AGL → crab
  • Pedals to trim.
4When clear of obstacles → 60 KIAS
  • Forward cyclic to 60 KIAS to clear the shaded area of the H-V Diagram.
5@ 500' AGL → level off
  • Forward cyclic to 65 KIAS.

Common errors

  • Failure to consider performance data, including the H-V Diagram.
  • Nose low causing excessive forward speed.
  • Failing to maintain max MAP.
  • Abrupt control movements.
